Woman charged for vehicle thefts

PRESQUE ISLE — A local woman has been charged in connection with two vehicle thefts over the weekend.
The Presque Isle Police Department received a call shortly after midnight Saturday from a woman on the Chandler Road who reported her truck had been stolen. The caller indicated she’d tried to start her vehicle but when it wouldn’t turn over, she went back in her home to notify her work she’d be delayed. While inside, she told police she heard a revving of an engine. When she looked outside, her truck was gone.
Officers Kevin Reed and Cole Chandler responded. Upon further investigation, officers discovered the vehicle crashed and on fire just over the line in Caribou on the Vance Road. At that point, police discovered the suspect had stolen a second vehicle from a residence near the crash site.
The Caribou Police Department was notified to investigate that theft. An officer with the CPD located and chased the stolen vehicle. An officer with the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office subsequently spiked the tires in order to get the vehicle to stop.
Elaine Godin, 45, of Presque Isle, was arrested and charged with the thefts. Godin may face other charges related to the incident. No court date was available at presstime.
