Caribou Rec Department sets April vacation schedule

CARIBOU — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department is working hard to give youngsters something to do this April vacation.

Registration for a number of programs is now under way.

On Tuesday, April 17 there is a round robin indoor soccer tournament in Madawaska for grades 6-8. Pre-registration is required with a maximum of 13 participants. The fee is $2. The departure and return times are to be determined.

A dodgeball tournament will take place on Wednesday, April 18 in Presque Isle for grades 3-5 and 6-8. Again participation is limited to 13 youngsters and pre-registration is required. The fee is $2 and departure and return times have not been finalized.

On Thursday, April 19 there will be a wiffleball tournament at the Caribou Wellness Center starting at 9 a.m. The event is for grades 4-6 and limited to 20 participants. There is no fee to take part.

Also on Thursday there will be an archery class for grades 5-8 taught by certified instructor, Bill Schofield Sr. That will take place at Sportsman’s Inc. on the Axle Siding Road in Stockholm from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required and there is a $20 fee. Lunch will be provided. A minimum of six participants is required.

Thursday at noon there will be a kickball tournament held for grades 4-6 at the Caribou Wellness Center. Again pre-registration is required. There is no fee to participate.

Family Night is back on Thursday night starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. Giant inflatables, foursquare, Dance Dance Revolution, X-Box Kinnect sports games and belly bumpers will be available. There is no fee for this activity, but kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over 18-years-old.

On Friday, April 20 there will be a wilderness survival class for grades 3-6 at Sportsman’s Inc. in Stockholm from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The class taught by Master Maine Guide Kevin Quist will explore map and compass, fire building, first aid and animal identification. There is a $20 fee and pre-registration is required. There needs to be a minimum of six. Lunch will be provided.
