Presque Isle starts the baseball season strong
with four wins

The high school baseball season has begun and the Presque Isle Wildcats opened up the season with a impressive weekend and Central Aroostook had their hitting shoes on against Ashland.
Recapping the games played through Monday night:
Presque Isle 8, Old Town 5 — It was a doubleheader sweep for Presque Isle in Old Town this weekend. In the second game, Wilder York pitched a complete game scattering 10 hits while striking out three.
Coach Tim Olore said pitching is a key to the 4-0 start to the season.
“Our pitchers pitched outstanding and they understood how important this weekend was,” said Olore. “Ryley Norton, Saul Nunez, Jacob Player and York set the tone for the weekend with their pitching.”
Providing offense was York with two singles, Tyler Seeley had a double and an RBI, Evan Waddell had a double and an RBI, Player had two doubles, Norton had a single and an RBI and Nunez had two singles and a double with an RBI.
Presque Isle’s first home game was last night against the Houlton Shiretowners.
Presque Isle 13, Old Town 1 — Also Saturday in Old Town, Presque Isle improved its record to 3-0 on the season with a 13-1 win over the Coyotes.
Player pitched a complete game three-hitter for the Wildcats. Jonah Stephenson had three doubles and two RBIs to pace Presque Isle offensively.
Coach Olore also praised his team’s defensive effort in the contest.
Presque Isle 2, Hermon 0 — On Friday in Hermon, Norton pitched a gem for the Wildcats in their season opener, only giving up nine hits and striking out eight in the shutout performance over the Hawks.
Nunez broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the sixth and York singled in a run in the seventh.
Presque Isle 7, Hermon 4 — In Game 2 at Hermon, Stephenson’s two-run single highlighted a five-run fourth that lifted Presque Isle to the win.
York and Seeley each had a RBI double to support Nunez, who scattered nine hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.
Central Aroostook 14, Ashland 0 — At Mars Hill Friday, Brendan York, Dan Brewer and Ross Grass combined for a one-hit shutout in five innings to give Central Aroostook the victory in the mutual opener.
York struck out six and didn’t walk a batter and aided his own cause with a double, single and two RBIs. Ryan King added a triple and two RBIs and Mike McClung had a double and two RBIs.
Cody Blair singled in the fourth for Ashland.
