to be held in Portage Lake

ASHLAND NEWS

by Susan Feeney-Hopkins

There will be a meeting held Thursday, May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Portage Lake Town Hall. This is the final question-and-answer session regarding the town’s (potential) withdrawal from SAD 32 before the approaching vote due to take place June 12. The meeting is open to the public and all town residents are encouraged and welcomed to attend.

Superintendent Gehrig Johnson, along with Charlie Anderson, business manager, and Portage Lake Town Manager Hollie Umphrey and Withdrawal Committee members will be on hand to discuss the budget, the projected cost (of withdrawing) to the town, and will also answer any other questions regarding the process. This is the last opportunity for the residents of the town to become informed about how a withdrawal from SAD 32 will impact the citizens and the community.

Portage Lake Congregational Church services

The Congregational Church will begin summer services Sunday, June 3 at 10 a.m. All are invited and welcomed to attend. There will also be activities for children. Light refreshments will be served after each service. For more information, call 435-6881.

Mr. Ashland Pageant

Five of Ashland’s loveliest ladies, I mean men … will be competing in the Mr. Ashland Pageant being held Friday, June 1 at the Ashland District School auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. The divas competing in this year’s most exclusive competition are Ashland seniors Amos Ward, Royce MacDonald, Mark Norris, Justin Pelletier and Joseph Day. The contestants will be judged for their poise, charm and talent, along with interview questions. Admission will be by donation and all proceeds will go directly to the 2012 Project Graduation. This will be their last fundraiser before graduation, so come on out to support our graduating seniors! It’s a fun night and should provide plenty of material for future harassment of the contestants and laughs for years to come!
