Union 122 students compete in Hershey track program

For the first time, the Hershey Track and Field Program has come to Woodland, Stockholm and New Sweden.

Students between the ages of 9 and 14 in the Union 122 communities competed in track and field competitions recently in both New Sweden and Woodland. The top four in each event earned the right to compete in the upcoming district meet, to be held at Caribou High School June 19.

At the New Sweden meet, Aidan Brown of Madawaska Lake won both the 50-meter dash and 200-meter dash in the boys’ 9-10 year-old category, while Riley Bouchard of New Sweden took first in the softball throw and the 400-meter dash. Oliver Peterson of Stockholm won the standing long jump and Walker Clark of Stockholm the 100-meter dash.

Abigail Wimmer of New Sweden won three events in the girls’ 9-10 division, taking the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash and the standing long jump. Angela Butterfield of New Sweden was first for the softball throw.

Austin Findlen took three titles for boys’ 11-12 competitors. The New Sweden boy was the winner in the 400-meter dash, the softball throw and the standing long jump. Alex Bouchard of New Sweden placed first in the 100-meter dash and John O’Meara of New Sweden won the 200-meter dash.

Tyana McLaughlin of Stockholm was a three-event winner in the girls’ 11-12 division, claiming the top spot in the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash and the standing long jump. Brooklyn McLaughlin of Stockholm won the 100-meter dash and Tanya Butterfield of New Sweden the softball throw.

Cody Moutinho and Kevin Bither, both of New Sweden, were double victors in the 13-14 boys’ category. Moutinho won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash, while Bither claimed victory in the softball throw and the standing long jump. The winner of the 1,600-meter run was Lukes Lagasse of New Sweden.

For girls ages 13-14, Kristyn Maley of Stockholm garnered three first-place finishes. She won the 800-meter run, the 1,600-meter run and the standing long jump. Kylie Haines of New Sweden took the softball throw, Kendra Furber of Stockholm the 100-meter dash, Emily Martin of New Sweden the 200-meter dash and Johnna Grant of New Sweden the 400-meter dash.

At the Woodland event, Alisgha Morris won both the softball throw and standing long jump in the boys’ 9-10 division. Keith Bray was first in the 50-meter dash, Dylan Dobb won the 100-meter dash and Ethan Albair the 200-meter dash.

For girls’ 9-10, Brooke Moir took the 100-meter dash and the softball throw, while Alexis Parker won for the standing long jump and Halle Greenier for the 50-meter dash.

Caleb Trombley of Woodland won twice for the boys’ 11-12 category, taking both the softball throw and standing long jump titles. Donald Love won the 800-meter run, Wyatt Taggett the 200-meter dash, Austin Dube the 400-meter dash and Cameron Doody the 100-meter dash.

Sarae Greenier had a two-win day, topping the field in both the 800-meter run and the 400-meter dash in the girls’ 11-12 division. Other winners were Moriah Connolly in the 100-meter dash, Makenzie Conroy in the 200-meter dash, Destiny Skidgel in the softball throw and Candace Lane in the standing long jump.

Dillon Beckum was dominant in the 13-14 boys’ category, earning wins in the 800-meter run, the 1,600-meter run and the standing long jump. Brandon Whitmore was triumphant in the softball throw, Kyle Morris prevailed in the 200-meter dash and Hunter Milliard was first in the 100-meter dash.

For the girls’ 13-14 division, Megan Thornton was the winner in the 100-meter dash and the softball throw, while Simone Michaud took top honors in the 200-meter dash and Dianna Poulin captured the win in the standing long jump.
