Credit Yourself grants awarded

to county women

Three Aroostook County graduates of Women, Work, and Community’s Credit Yourself class were selected to receive $250 grants to help achieve their financial goals. The class was presented in partnership with KeyBank, and 10 grant recipients were selected from almost 60 graduates of the program last year throughout the state.

WENDY WELLS, of Castle Hill, at right, is presented with a $250 grant check by Tanya LaPointe of KeyBank, BU-WWC KeyBank-clr-cx1-sh-25 upon Wells’ completion of Women, Work and Community’s Credit Yourself class.

Amy Schnoor of Monticello, Joyce Transue of Houlton and Wendy Wells of Castle Hill were thrilled to be awarded Credit Yourself grants to help move their finances forward.

Grant recipient Amy Schnoor said, “Taking the class helped me to understand my credit better and make strides to improve it.”

Getting back into a classroom environment also prompted Schnoor to continue her schooling, and she is currently working toward her bachelor’s degree in psychology.

Schnoor reports, “I may never have gotten the confidence to do this had it not been for Women, Work and Community and empowerment I got from taking the Credit Yourself course.”

Women, Work, and Community’s Aroostook County center will offer its next money management class this fall in Presque Isle. My Money Works is a five-week comprehensive class that helps you gain the skills and confidence you need to stretch your money, pay your bills, reduce your debt, find money for savings and set personal financial goals. The class is open to anyone who is interested in becoming more comfortable and competent in managing your money, including women, men and couples of all ages and incomes. There is no fee for the class. For more information, call Women, Work, and Community at 764-0050, e-mail erica.quineaster@maine.edu, or visit www.womenworkandcommunity.org.
