PRESQUE ISLE – In the early morning hours of June 12, 2012, while trucks rolled and people in Aroostook County slumbered before facing another spring day of working on the land, Clarence Lee Cain was embraced into eternity, courageously leaving the pain and invasion of his cancer behind. While he settled in and patiently waited, his faithful and loving dog, Cain, found his angel wings and joined his loyal master-together forever and always – as they should be.
Lee is survived by countless people who loved him and he was always so grateful for their support, friendship, love, laughter and even deviltry.
Lee was born into New Brunswick farm life on January 19, 1953, the second child to Kathleen and Clarence Cain. He followed oldest sister, Anne and was later accompanied by sisters, Joy and Kelly. The only boy and the cherished son, Lee was blessed from birth to be surrounded by fabulous women — something that continued his entire life. His sisters all married terrific men — Anne married Wayne Prosser and they live in Centreville, Joy married Steve Whited and moved to Bridgewater, and Kelly married Darren Craswell and moved to Fredericton.
Lee’s dad, Clarence predeceased him in 1997 and left this world knowing his only son stood for all the values that make a man’s life truly rich — even if your material worth is almost nothing.
Lee is survived by his most cherished friend and partner in crime — Jessica Pratt — who accepted Lee unconditionally and who cared for him during the long haul. He leaves behind his oldest friend and the mother of his children, Dixie Shaw, Presque Isle; and his three children, who he loved and treasured through thick and thin. Proud and adoring father of Loren Cain whose beauty, courage and strength he so admired and was particularly fond of her choice in men — welcoming her partner, Alan Firby into the family. Lee also leaves behind his two sons, James Cain and granddaughter, Jadeyn Cain, as well as Lee’s youngest son, Ben Cain, grandson, Connor Cain, and Ben’s partner, Megan Felt Lavin. While James shared Lee’s energy and quick turn of phrase, Ben’s tender heart and the use of his hands to build things — are things Lee loved and admired.
The family invited friends to celebrate Lee’s life on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Aroostook County Shrine Club. Calling hours were from 1-3 p.m. Funeral followed at 3 p.m. with interment immediately followed the service at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. In lieu of flowers, and in recognition of Lee’s undying love for animals, donations can be made to the Central Aroostook Humane Society in Lee’s and Cain’s memory.
