Jim Martin is a third generation commercial builder based in Caribou. His nomination and selection for the Associated General Contractors of Maine Major Achievement in Construction Award, known as the MAC Award, became reality at the annual award dinner Saturday, Aig. 4, 2012.

“Jim is the epitome of our belief that the industry must be rooted in skill, responsibility and integrity,” cited AGC Maine President Dave Nazaroff.

The event was held at Point Lookout in Northport at the top of the summit.

President Nazaroff joked, “I promised a terrific moon would be visible last year from the summit and was successful, so we decided to repeat it again here for Jim.”

Over 100 guests attended the weekend event to honor Martin. In the past, the honorees ranged from folks who accomplished a specific significant impact on the industry including Dana Connors and those whose leadership left a long lasting mark on the industry such as Bud Cianchette.

“Jim is being honored for continued involvement outside of his business to help advance the industry. He was elected President of AGC Maine in 1996 and he continues to represent the core beliefs of AGC. Last year he organized an event in Presque Isle to help contractors, members and non-members, learn more about the United States Government Services Agency. The event brought attention to contractor concerns and communication with the agency,” said AGC Maine’s Matt Marks.

Martin believes future constructors should learn in the classroom and in the field. He is a graduate of the University of Maine earning his engineering degree and master’s degree in structural engineering. After college he entered the workforce at General Services Company where he learned the trade in the field. In 1986 he joined PL Willey Company and became the company Vice President of construction. In 1995 he purchased the construction division and changed the name to J.P. Martin & Sons Construction Corporation.

Jim and his wife Mae have three sons, Peter, Lorin, and Keith, all engineers, living and working in Maine.
