Wildcats collect soccer sweep

    The Presque Isle varsity soccer teams made it a clean sweep in their home doubleheader against John Bapst of Bangor, played Saturday.

    The Wildcat girls moved to 6-1 on the season with their 2-0 victory.

    Taylor Williams and Chandler Guerrette were the goal scorers and goalkeeper Meredith Stewart recorded the shutout by saving all three shots she faced. Megan Ireland assisted on one of the goals.

 SP-pijbbDA-dcx2-sh-39   JONAH STEPHENSON of the Wildcats picked up this loose ball rebound off John Bapst goalkeeper Braydon Norris and walked the ball into the empty net to open the scoring for PI in Saturday’s home soccer match. The ’Cats went on to a 4-1 victory.

    The PI boys eased past the Crusaders, 4-1, behind two first-half goals by Ben Nickerson and single goals by Jonah Stephenson and Chase Norton. Jacob Williams and Alex Michaud registered assists and goalkeeper Cody Lyford had five save on eight shots.

    Last Tuesday, the Wildcat boys tied Fort Kent for the second time this season, this time by a 2-2 score in a rainy road contest. Nickerson and Stephenson scored PI’s goals and Williams had an assist.

    The Class D schools began their harvest recess, so the schedule was limited.

    The Washburn girls moved to 9-1 on the season after besting Limestone-MSSM last Tuesday, 5-2. Mackenzie Worcester had four of the goals for the winners.

    The Beaver boys also prevailed, 5-1, behind a hat trick by Mitchell Worcester. Washburn is now 5-4-2 on the year.
