Soccer teams keep eye on the prize as regular season comes to a close

    The high school regular soccer season will finish in nine days, with the last countable game to be held on Oct. 16. The girls and Class D boys preliminaries will be Friday, Oct. 19, with the rest of the boys preliminary games on Saturday, Oct. 20.
    The girls quarterfinals will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, with the boys quarterfinals on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Class C and D semifinals are scheduled for Oct. 26, while classes B and A semis will be Oct. 27.
    The regional finals for all classes will be Oct. 31 with state championships on Nov. 3.
    The Houlton Shiretowners soccer team overpowered visiting Calais on Monday, as they picked up an 11-1 victory.

    Jimmy Fitzpatrick led Houlton with five goals, while Gage Hunt scored two more. Kyle Bouchard collected three assists to go along with his single tally, while Dan Swallow and Mattaloe Spencer each scored a goal and added an assist. Isaac Cone also scored for the 8-2-1 Shires.
    Combining in goal Kole Buzzeo and Sam Astle stopped one of four shots faced. Calais’ keeper Cody Rohde had 15 saves on 31 shots.
    Last Friday, Fitzpatrick once again led the offense for Houlton in its 9-1 win over visiting Mattanawcook Academy.
    Fitzpatrick scored three goals and added an assist, while Hunt also hit for three tallies. Bouchard added a goal and assist, while Brandon Ward and Spencer each recorded a goal. Goalie Buzzeo had seven stops on eight shots faced.
    For Mattanawcook Academy, goalie Justin Smith blocked  20 of 33 shot attempts.
    Last Wednesday, Bouchard led Houlton past Schenck with two goals and assisted on three tallies in Houlton’s 7-0 win.
    Fitzpatrick and Ward both scored twice, while Hunt added another score. Fitzpatrick and Alex Casillas each recorded an assist  in the win.  Buzzeo was perfect between the posts stopping all five shots faced.
    For Schenck, Jon Chiasson had seven saves on 20 shots faced.   
    At Jonesport last Friday, East Grand fell 7-1 to the Royals.
    Philip Farley scored East Grand’s lone goal, while keeper Alex Brittain had seven saves on 22 shots.
    At Mars Hill last Thursday, the SACS Warriors edged CAHS, 2-1 when Cody Lassonde scored with 34 minutes left in the second half. Trent Cullinan scored a first-half goal, while keeper Austin White had five saves on 15 shots.

    For CAHS, Joe Stiles scored the lone goal, while goalie Hunter Crouse had four saves on nine shots.
    Last Tuesday, the Warriors shutout East Grand, 5-0, in Dyer Brook.
    Cameron Landry and Lassonde each had two goals, while Mason Caron tallied a goal, as well. Cullinan and Landry each had assists. Goalie White had three saves.
    For East Grand, Brittain had 24 saves.
    The Katahdin Cougars fell to visiting PVHS, 4-2, as well on Friday.
    Shey Lane and Sam Vetter scored a goal apiece for Katahdin, while keeper Cody Brownlee made 11 saves against 19 shots.
    The Hodgdon/GHCA varsity boys soccer team picked up a 4-1 win against visiting Katahdin.
    Chris Hudson provided two goals — a penalty kick and corner kick — while Jimmy Buzzell and Devin Quint each posted a tally. Matt Harmon and Anthony Mazzacco also chipped in with assists.
    For Katahdin, Vetter scored off a Billy Livezey set up.
    In Ashland, the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors took a 9-1 loss on Monday.
    For Southern Aroostook, 4-8, Cassidy Lyons tallied the lone score, while goalie Megan Goodall had eight saves on 28 shots faced.
    Last Friday in Mars Hill, Brea York and Molly Garrison’s first-half goals carried the Central Aroostook Lady Panthers  to a 5-0 win over Southern Aroostook. Molly Anthony, Karli Levesque and Paige Garrison all tallied a second-half goal.
    In goal, CAHS’ Garrison and April Santiago had three saves on four shots.

    For SACS, goalie Jessica Nye had six saves on 17 shots.
    Last Tuesday, the Lady Warriors overtook East Grand, 3-1 behind goals by Nye, Elizabeth Bishop and Desirae Dubois.
    Dubois opened the scoring, but East Grand’s Lauren  Morse tied the game. Bishop converted an indirect kick with 30 seconds left in the first half for the game-winner, as Nye added the insurance goal in the second half.
    Alana Pratt recorded a hat trick last Thursday in Lincoln, as she helped the Houlton Lady Shires to a 6-1 victory over Mattanawcook Academy.
    Mikaelah Tracy collected two goals, while Natalie Hill added a tally and Abby Deveau an assist. Marina Cameron stopped two of five shots in goal.
    For the Lynx, goalie Carli McDonald had 15 saves on 25 shots faced.
    Last Tuesday, Pratt again led Houlton with two goals in each half as the Lady Shires defeated Schenck, 8-0.
    Tracy also scored a goal and added an assist, while Bre Longstaff, Katie Condon and Madelene Anderson all scored a tally. Hill made two assists, with Emily Mooers adding one. Combining in goal, Cameron and Tanika Toby had four saves on five shots.
    For Schenck, Kristen Thompson stopped 11 of 29 shots.

    In Howland, the Katahdin Lady Cougars were blanked 8-0 by the 8-1-1 Howlers.
    In goal, Erin Crawford stopped 12 of 25 shots for 0-10-1 Katahdin, while her counterpart Sami Ireland didn’t face a shot.
    In Danforth last Thursday, East Grand picked up a 4-0 win over Woodland.
    Shaunna Beaudoin, Felicia Cowger and Emily Massey all  scored on senior night. Bayleigh Rowe also added a goal. Goalie Jayne Cousins had nine saves.
    For Woodland, keeper Devon Perkins had 14 saves on 18 shots.
    Last Tuesday, the Hodgdon/GHCA girls soccer team toppled host Katahdin, 6-1.
    Lacey McQuarrie collected five goals, with Jamie Theriault adding an other for the Hodgdon/GHCA girls.
    For Katahdin, Megan Merry provided the lone tally.
