Editor’s note: The following article is a synopsis written by staff members and volunteers of the Cary Public Library highlighting one of the suggested reading books, as determined by their staff.
Children especially like animal books so we have two listed for this week:
A staff member in the Children’s Library recommends “The Mischievous Cats,” by Avis Conners, a Houlton resident and author. Zeke and Rambo are so able to attract trouble, their owners must keep doors closed and ever-watchful.  Imagine a skunk in your back room, a cat riding on a cow’s back, and a Christmas tree on fire. Six chapters tell different escapades which are fun to read to and with children.
The second book by Audrey and Eldad Hagar, “Our Lives Have Gone to The Dogs,” second edition, has many beautiful pictures of animals they have rescued from abusive situations. Parents would want to select which sections to share with younger children; the pictures are delightful with names as unique as the cat, dog or other animal, like a “Sugar Glider”. An explanation of the non-profit this generous couple has managed for years is included: imagine fostering over 400 dogs until they are placed with a permanent family! Inspiring reading.
The Cary Public Library is open Monday-Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 532-1302.
