Middle school XC teams win Countys

    HOULTON — The Aroostook League cross country championships for middle school teams was held Oct. 3 and hosted by Greater Houlton Christian Academy.

    The Presque Isle girls and boys swept the competition. The PI girls won with 29 points to best Caribou, which posted 51. GHCA (69) and Woodland (78) followed in the team standings.

    The individual winner was Kristyn Maley of New Sweden, whose time was 15:31 on the 2.1-mile course. PI runners Ellie Goheen (15:37) and Isabelle Jackson (15:55) followed in second and third, respectively. Anya O’Mera of New Sweden was fourth and Rylee Warman of GHCA was fifth.

    Also breaking into the overall top 10 were Presque Isle’s Jessica Boucher and Caribou runners Madeline Gudde, Emma Belyea and Amber Moir, along with GHCA’s Victoria Holmes.

    Taylor Ellis and Sheridan Boucher were the other PI scorers.

    Kristen Sarmiento was the first Woodland runner to cross the finish line.

    The Wildcat boys scored 40 points to defeat Caribou, which had 48, for the top spot. New Sweden had 63 and Woodland 81.

    Taking first place was Caribou’s Evan Desmond, who had a time of 13:19. The runner-up was PI’s Hunter Flynn, who came in at 13:44. Kyle Morris of Woodland was third in 14:03.

    Daniel Randolph of Caribou and Wesley Ganglfinger of GHCA were fourth and fifth, respectively.

    Others in the top 10, in order of finish, were New Sweden’s Austin Findlen, Caribou’s Alec Cyr, New Sweden’s John O’Mera, GHCA’s Cole Winslow and Presque Isle’s Tanner Tollefson.

    The three other Wildcats who figured into the team scoring were Dustin Alward, John Saucier and Aaron Swanson.

    The coaches of the Presque Isle cross country teams are Kimberly and Barry Wright.
