HOULTON — Since 2004, Machias Savings Bank has been awarding Community Development Grants to deserving projects located or serving in Machias Savings Bank’s primary lending area as defined in its CRA Public File.
Machias Savings Bank’s goal is to fund projects that result in community development. The grant focuses on job creation/retention, community revitalization projects, helping to provide affordable housing or other programs designed to assist low- to-moderate income individuals and/or families.
This year’s local recipients are:
• Upper Valley Economic Corporation — A $3,000 grant toward its revolving loan program. This program will assist local small businesses in the southern Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties.
• Adopt a Block Program of Aroostook — This multifaceted project increases the scope of services provided to fund the “It’s all about choices” program. The $1,500 grant will help finance this after school care and mentoring program to at risk students.
• Friends of Aroostook — The goal of Friends of Aroostook is to provide fresh vegetables to home bound elderly, soup kitchens and homeless shelters in Aroostook and Washington counties. The $5,209 grant will assist the group with construction of a greenhouse to grow fresh vegetables.
• Maine Family Resource Center — A $1,500 grant to help with the after school program for students in the Danforth region.
