Volunteers of the Halfway Home Pet Rescue said that Little Orphan Annie was found wandering around Superior Ave. in Caribou several weeks ago and was brought to a HHPR foster home for care. Annie tested negative leukemia/AIDS, spayed, wormed, received distemper and rabies vaccinations and has received a parasite prevention treatment. Her adoption fee is only $5 during the next Adult Cat Adoption Fair on Saturday, Dec. 15, from noon to 3 p.m. at the pet rescue adoption site located at 489 South Main St. Volunteers say that Annie is an extremely clean cat with a mellow disposition and gets along with other animals. “Annie would be good with children of all ages,” said HHPR President Norma Milton, who described yet another busy week at HHPR. We spayed another four females and neutered one male this week; took in four adult cats and two kittens. she said. Last week’s featured HHPR cat Luscious Larry has also been adopted by a couple in Etna and will go to his new home on Dec. 14th. Another rescued kitty, Bubba, is reportedly recovering well from his eye surgery and has been adopted; another young adult injured cat, Chester, is also recovering well from his surgery. Chester was rescued on Lyndon St with a severely infected leg injury that could not be repaired and needed to be amputated. “One would never know that he had suffered so much — he is a constant purr and so grateful for his good care,” Milton said. “He walks very well on three legs and manages to climb up on his cage hammock by himself, but we do have to restrain him from jumping up on the bureau.” Milton also said that the shelter received two sick little twin orange kittens this week who are responding nicely to care and will probably be ready for adoption in another 10 days. HHPR has 11 kittens and 23 young adults available for immediate adoption. The Free Pet Food Pantry will be closed until further notice. Milton expressed that HHPR is very grateful for the money from business collection jars and the collection of returnable bottles and cans, adding that the shoe box collection is also ongoing.
