SOUCY, Pearle L., 83, PORTAGE LAKE, March 3, 2013. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Portage Lake. Arrangements are in the care of Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, Ashland.
PORTAGE LAKE – Pearle L. Soucy, our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, in the presence of the people who loved her most – her family. She was born August 10, 1929, in Ashland, daughter of Everett and Odelle (Carney) Walker. She lived most of her adult life at Portage Lake, where she and her husband of 52 years, Alberie “Barry” Soucy, together built a lifetime of memories.
Pearle was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church at Portage Lake. Her unwavering faith and religious devotion sustained her through times of difficulty in her life. Pearle gave unselfishly of herself to many organizations and clubs. She was a charter member of the Portage Hills Country Club and was past president and vice president of the PHCC, traveled with the Lady Seniors Golf League representing the PHCC, and served on the PHCC Board of Directors. She was a charter member of the Portage Snowmobile Club, president, secretary and treasurer of Our Lady of the Lake Sodality, served on the finance committee and parish council for St. Mark Parish and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was employed with the Postal Service for 30-years. She was involved with education through her service as an Educational Advisor of SAD #32 Board of Directors, played an integral part in raising money for scholarships for SAD #32 through Dollars for Scholars Campaign. She was the Town of Portage Lake Health Officer, member of the A.R. Gould Hospital Auxiliary, and past Director of the Ashland Health Center. Her senior years were spent bowling with the Northern Lanes Senior Bowling League, Portage Lake Red Hat Loonies, and the Over 50 Club. She never took more than she gave and truly taught by example.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Soucy and his wife, Sandra of Portage Lake; two daughters, Nancy Levasseur of Fort Fairfield, and Carol Gagnon and her husband, Wayne of Portage Lake; her grandchildren, Adam Soucy of Portage Lake, Sarah Ellsworth and her husband, Ryan of Presque Isle, Erin Gagnon and her husband, Cole of Windham, Ben Gagnon and his wife, Abby of Portage Lake, Whitney Levasseur of Bangor, and Brandon Levasseur and his wife, Grace of Beaverton, OR; her great-grandchildren, Samuel Walker Gray, Aubrey Maren Ellsworth, and Chase Alberie Gagnon; her brother, Melvin Walker of Florida; a special brother, Donald Clayton of Hampden; her sisters-in-law, Adrienne Bartlett, Callie Walker and Virginia Walker. She leaves many nieces and nephews who will always remember their Aunt, Pearle. She also leaves a lifetime of friends, especially the “coffee crew” at Dean’s Hotel, who filled her last years with love, respect and kindness.
Besides her parents, Pearle was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Alberie “Barry” Soucy; her brothers, Donald, Everett and Eugene; her sisters, Ruth Ann and Marjorie.
Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday, March 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Thursday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Portage Lake. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the church. Spring interment will be in Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery.
