Tennis teams begin regular season play with three matches

    The Caribou boys’ tennis team won a pair of 3-2 decisions at Ellsworth Saturday, improving its record to 3-0 heading into Tuesday’s match at Houlton.

    The Vikings relied on their doubles teams to come away with the victory. The duo of Brendan Cyr and Tyler Willey prevailed by scores of 8-3 and 9-8 (7-3), while Cameron Hill and Gabe Massey came out on top, 8-6 and 8-1.
    In singles play, Zac Gorence won, 9-8 (8-6) for Caribou’s lone singles victory in one match. In the other, Michael Marquis scored a 9-8 (8-6) triumph.

    At the University of Maine at Presque Isle Thursday, the Vikings blanked the host Wildcats, 5-0. Ethan Plourde, Marquis and Gorence all won in singles, while Cyr-Willey and Massey-Hill combinations coasted to doubles victories.
    The Caribou girls split their matches at Ellsworth, winning one, 4-1, while losing the other, 3-2.
    In the victory, No. 1 singles player Ashley Richards won, 8-5, while third singles player Alexa Massey also notched an 8-6 win. Both doubles teams also won, with Clara Collins and Emma Duplissie-Cyr (by a score of 8-4) and Makayla Bouchard-Anna Soderberg (8-5) doing the honors.
    In Ellsworth’s win, Richards and Massey were both able to garner singles victories.
    At UMPI, Caribou was beaten by PI, 3-2. The Viking winners were Richards and Massey.
