WDHS winter athletes lauded
WASHBURN — The high school’s annual winter sports awards night was held April 8.

BROTHER-SISTER COMBO — The Washburn District High School winter sports awards night on April 8 was a big one for the Bragg siblings, Nick and Carmen. Nick, a senior, won the coach’s award in basketball and the volleyball MVP, while Carmen, a junior, was the co-MVP in basketball and earned a berth on the all-tournament volleyball team.
JV girls’ basketball coach Tammy Tatlock awarded certificates to Laina Mette, Natalie Doody, Jessica Aube, Stacy Landry, Grace Braley, Taylor Howe, Emilia Churchill, Liza Durette, Brittany Corey and Hannah Heald. Mette was named outstanding offensive player, Heald was the outstanding defensive player and Durette was named most improved.
JV boys’ basketball coach Mike Hartford presented certificates to Michael Ericson, Alex Pellitier, Chandler Dobson, Justin Davis, Tyler Jardine, Brandon Cropley, Parker Thompson, Noah Farley, Derek Baker and manager Mac Hartford. The coach’s award was presented to the entire team.
Tatlock, the girls’ volleyball coach, presented certificates to Olivia Doody, Rayah Saucier, Maegan Fitzpatrick, Nicole Olson, Caitlyn Roix, Carmen Bragg, Hannah Heald, Mackenzie Worcester, Tyra Shaw, Mikayla Churchill, Kennedy Churchill, Emilia Churchill, Jacqueline McCarthy and Laina Mette. Saucier was chosen as most valuable player, Fitzpatrick received the coach’s award, Olson was the best offensive player and Bragg made the County all-tournament team.
Tatlock also awarded certificates to members of the boys’ volleyball team. Receiving certificates were Parker Thompson, Justin Davis, Tyler Jardine, Alex Pellitier, Taylor Skinner, Michael Ericson, Cameron Bragg, Cameron Preston, Keagan Page, Nick Bragg, Andrew McLaughlin, Kenny Irfins and manager Taylor Howe. Nick Bragg was selected as MVP and also made the County all-tourney team. Preston was named the best offensive player and Ericson claimed the coach’s award.
Earning a cheering certificate was Alexa Woodman, while Jacqueline McCarthy received a letter and pins went to Caitlyn Roix, Courtney Cannon, Kaylee Doody, Tiffany Bragg, Mikayla Churchill, Catelyn Coulombe and manager Lucia Bragg. Churchill was named outstanding cheerleader, Cannon and Roix captured spirit awards and three-year plaques.
Randy Norsworthy, coach of the boys’ varsity basketball team, presented a letter to Derek Baker, a certificate to Noah Farley and pins to Mitchell Worcester, Nick Bragg, Chandler Dobson, Jarrett Olson, Cameron Preston, Cameron Bragg, Kenny Irving, Michael Ericson, Alex Pellitier, Brandon Cropley, Parker Thompson and Noah Caron, as well as managers Maegan Fitzpatrick and Owen James. Worcester was chosen as MVP, Nick Bragg won the coach’s award and Caron was the most improved player. Worcester was also recognized with a plaque for scoring 2,000 points and was also cited for his inclusion on the All-Aroostook team.
Girls’ varsity coach Diana Trams presented certificates to Stacy Landry and Liza Durrette and pins to Olivia Doody, Carsyn Koch, Nicole Olson, Taylor Thompson, Carmen Bragg, Rachel Rossignol, Mackenzie Worcester, Joan Overman, Hannah Heald, Laina Mette, Emilia Churchill, Taylor Howe, Natalie Doody, Grace Braley and manager Owen James. Worcester and Bragg were presented MVP awards and Doody was the recipient of the coach’s award. Three-year plaques were presented to Koch, Thompson, Bragg and Olson. All-Aroostook players were Worcester, Bragg and Koch. Worcester received a game ball and a plaque for scoring her 1,000th point during the state title game at the Bangor Auditorium. All players received state championship plaques and a commemorative banner and backboard were unveiled in the gymnasium.
Varsity Club jackets were presented to Caitlyn Roix and Olivia Doody, while Cody Tompkins also was recognized with a special award.
