BREWER, Maine — The Penobscot Valley Conference track and field championship meet for large schools was held Monday. It was originally planned for Saturday, but was pushed back due to rain.
Mitchell St. Peter of the Caribou Vikings came in first in the 1,600-meter race walk in 8 minutes, 19.69 seconds. The Caribou boys picked up 30 of their 46 points in that event by also featuring the next four finishers. Austin Griffeth was second in 8:32.05, Tyler Strid third in 9:10.66, Keith Draper fourth in 9:29.95 and Lucas Lagasse fifth in 9:30.26.
Brendan Wood placed fifth in the 300 hurdles in 45.35 seconds and was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.7 seconds.
Ron Lund placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 10:36.97.
Caribou’s 4×800-meter relay team was fourth in 9:01.42 and the 4×400 relay team was sixth in 3:50.67.
In field events, Grant Bennett took fourth in the javelin at 135 feet, 8 inches.
As a team, Caribou finished in sixth place out of nine teams. Brewer was the winner with 118 and Hampden Academy the runner-up with 108.
The Viking girls posted 37 points in the meet. Again, Caribou scored well in the race walk as Alissa Irving was second in 9:29.39, Meredith Sleeper third in 9:35.71 and Kate Finnemore fifth in 10:11.7.
Sarah Doak was fifth in the 1,600 in 5:36.17, Mackenzie Deveau sixth in the 400 in 1:04.68, Eileen Patton fifth in the 300 hurdles in 51.77, Olivia Sleeper fifth in the 800 in 2:29.89 and Chelsea Bard fourth in the 3,200 in 12:43.71.
The Vikes’ 4×800-meter relay team was fourth in 11:07.48, the 4×400 relay team fourth in 4:31.49 and the 4×100 relay team fifth in 55.35.
Caribou came in seventh place out of nine teams. Bangor won with 142 points and Brewer was second with 110.
The Class B state meet is set for Saturday, June 1 in Bath, while the Class C meet, which will includes Washburn, Fort Fairfield and Limestone-MSSM athletes, takes place that same day in Dover-Foxcroft. Both events begin at 10 a.m.
