GHCA to host teacher development Internet conference

Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA) announced that it has been selected to host a two-day Internet teacher professional development event by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) on October 17-18.
The event is called ACSI NEXUS Live and will be streamed live via satellite and Internet to more than 100 campuses across the country where over 15,000 Christian school educators will be gathering. Faculty from Cornerstone Christian Academy in Presque Isle and from Penobscot Christian School in Bangor will be joining with the Academy’s own staff for this event.

ACSI NEXUS Live makes it possible for local Christian educators to learn from noted educators, some of whom are familiar to public education such as Dr. Todd Whittaker (author, “What Great Teachers Do Differently”) and Annette Breaux (author, “Seven Simple Secrets: What the Best Teachers Know and Do”). Other speakers are geared to Christian education such as Sean McDowell (“Worldview Teaching That Transforms Lives”) and the Axis Worldview Team and Passages Team, which focus on the area of Christian apologetics.
GHCA Head of School, John Bishop, said “We are grateful that our teachers will be able to learn from some respected thought leaders and educational practitioners from across the country. The follow-up resources for professional development for our teachers are also impressive — about 600 hours of on-demand, online content produced by ACSI but also ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development). This will be available to all our teachers as resources for improving their effectiveness in teaching.”
ACSI is the world’s largest association of Protestant schools in the world, serving almost 23,000 Christian schools in 106 nations. It is one of two organizations with which GHCA holds accreditation, the other being the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
