Individual state meet this Saturday
The Houlton High School golf team was awarded the Eastern Maine Class C Sportsmanship Banner at the state golf meet Saturday at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro.
“I am proud of all my players for their hard work and dedication this year and I am looking forward to next year,” said Houlton coach David Grant.
The Shiretowners placed third overall, just eight strokes behind Class C champion St. Dom’s, who captured the title with a team score of 329, followed by Winthrop with a 330 and Houlton, 337.
In fourth was Wiscasset, 340; fifth, Fort Fairfield, 348; sixth, North Yarmouth Academy, 373; seventh, Mattanawcook Academy, 376; eighth, Central Aroostook, 378; ninth, George Stevens Academy, 379; 10th, Buckfield, 423 and 11th Jonesport-Beals, 459.
The Shiretowners were led by Cameron J. Clark with an 81, while Ryan Dee carded an 84; Parker Brewer finished with an 85; Kyle Bouchard shot an 87 and Garrett Putnam tallied a 104.
“We played well,” said Grant. “We are young and will be back in another year.”
The individual state meet is Saturday at Natanis Golf Club. Competing from Houlton are Clark, Dee, Lexi Emerson and Piper Flewelling.
“I wish all of them good luck,” said Grant.
