LINNEUS – Madeline Bates Adams, 95, went to her heavenly home on December 28, 2013. She was born October 30, 1918, in Houlton, the daughter of J. Gordon and Adelaide (Webster) Bates.
Madeline graduated from Ricker Classical Institute with her twin sister Maxine. She worked for her father on the family farm and then in CT during the war. On November 8, 1945, she became the wife of Preston Adams. They were together for 63 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Madeline was a member of the New Limerick Baptist Church and the proud holder of the Boston Cane for the Town of Linneus.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Hersey of Oakfield, Pauline Crane of Linneus, Diane Nason and her husband, Leigh, of Linneus; three grandchildren, James Hersey and wife, Candy, of Smyrna, Wanda Hersey Jandreau of Edgewood, MD, and Leanna Nason of Linneus; four great-grandchildren, Adrian Jandreau of Ft. Kent, Jordi Jandreau of MD, William and Noah Hersey of Smyrna; one sister, Leta Adams of Houlton; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband; sisters, Delicia Kenny, Maxine Bither and Glenice Vachon; brothers, Gordon, George and Donald Bates; two sons-in-law, Vernon Hersey and Stephen Crane.
