WHITE GRADUATES — Christmas came early for the White family of Easton. Kim and Tammey White were proud to see their son, Kyle, graduate from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in December. Kyle is currently working with the Presque Isle Police Department.

In order to receive this honor he had to complete 18 weeks of training. This class had the highest class averages in the history of the program. He was pinned by Deputy Chief Laurie Kelly with Chief Matt Irwin of the Presque Isle Police Department.  He was the 50th graduate of 50 due to alphabetical order, or were they just saving the best for last?

Little School

Many years have passed since the final classes exited the doors of the Little School on the Station Road. This beloved building holds many fond memories for those who attended their first years of school within those  walls.
For many years the building was used for storage, and gradually fell into a state of severe disrepair. The Little School held a special place in the heart of Lewis “Lew” Hayden, Jr. who was a student there from 1943-47. Lew’s love for the school, and his desire to see it restored, led him to purchase it in 2003. He had a new foundation installed under the building and had the roof stripped and re-shingled.
In 2010 he donated the building to the Little School Restoration Committee which took on the task of completing the restoration he had begun, and the challenge of  raising the funds needed to complete the work. With Lew’s help, we were making great progress when he unexpectedly passed away in 2012. Though much has been accomplished, there is still much to do before they meet their goal of completing the restoration by the 2015 Easton Sesquicentennial.
In addition to the restoration of the building, there are plans to relocate the Historical Society to a part of the building and add a Little School Community Park to the field between the school and the former Methodist Church. They have reached a critical point in the restoration and are reaching out to those who would share their mission and Lew’s desire to see the restoration of the Little School completed.
A number of the projects that remain will require a significant amount of funds to complete. If you would like more information about the restoration, call Brian at 551-5849 or e-mail me at blawrence@mfx.net.
