TOWNSHIP 2, RANGE 9, Maine — A Maine State Police Trooper narrowly avoided injury Monday morning when his police cruiser was struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 95.
According to Lt. John Cote, commanding officer of Troop F in Houlton, trooper recruit Adam Bell, 31, of Hodgdon was traveling south between Medway and Lincoln, when he came upon an accident around mile marker 236. A vehicle had gone off the road and into the median.
While investigating this accident, his unoccupied 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor was hit by a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by Heming Guo, 49, of Las Vegas. Bell’s cruiser was parked with its blue lights flashing at the time of the incident.
“It was raining at the time, but freezing upon contact with the road,” Cote said. “Trooper recruit Bell was out of his cruiser approaching the vehicle in the median when the operator of the tractor-trailer lost control.”
The rig, which is owned by Prime, Inc., first struck the vehicle in the median before hitting Bell’s cruiser before eventually coming to a rest in the median. No one was injured in the incident, but all vehicles involved sustained major damage.
Alcohol was not a factor in the incident, but Guo was summoned for imprudent speed.
Trooper Thomas Fiske investigated the incident.
