Houlton High School is pleased to announce that Noah Holmes has been chosen to receive the 2014 Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award. Each year this prestigious award is presented to a high school senior who exemplifies the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
Holmes was among three outstanding members from the Class of 2015 to be nominated for the honor by faculty at Houlton High School before being voted in as the winner by the senior class. In addition to local recognition, Noah will be competing against other DAR winners from throughout Maine in the Good Citizen Essay Scholarship Contest with the potential to move on to the national level.
Noah is an honors student who is actively involved in a multitude of activities within the community and at school. His contributions to Houlton High School encompass his participation in chorus, band, the fall musical, All Aroostook Choir, All State Choir, cross country, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and show choir where he received the Outstanding Musicianship Award for Vocal this year. In addition, Noah’s involvement in Student Council has given him an opportunity to assist withthe high school’s Change for Change program which allows staff and students to reach out to those in need. Noah’s academic accolades include receiving the Principal’s Award throughout his high school career and receiving the 2014 George Eastham Young Leader Award.
Along with his work at the Houlton Recreation Center and Whited Bible Camp, Noah sings in a gospel trio that participates in fundraising concerts for Adopt-A-Block and local missionaries. He is also involved in youth group, plays bass for the Church Worship Team and Gospel Trio, and is a Bible Quiz participant.
Noah is the son of Richard and Sara Holmes. He resides in Houlton with his parents and younger sister Victoria.
