Electronic advertising — Houlton Furniture Co. has recently placed across the front of their block, an enormous electric sign, 38 feet long. It is arranged so that exchangeable letters 15 inches high can be placed in position to advertise their goods. It is very conspicuous and attracts lots of attention.

Road conditions — Reports from all parts of the state show that Split Log Drag is coming into its own and is being used and appreciated more than ever. The roads about Houlton and connecting towns were dragged last week.

Water, water everywhere! — Southern Aroostook County, hit hard by heavy rains and melting snow, saw the highest water levels since 1923 on Saturday and Sunday. Even small streams such as Pearce Brook were swollen beyond their normal size and meandered through dooryards. Trains on the Bangor & Aroostook were canceled Saturday due to washout of the tracks.
Spring specials — Rose Marie’s Beauty Salon, Main Street, Houlton is advertising a lustre oil permanent for $1.95 and Houlton Farms Dairy is featuring sweet cream butter, 35 cents per lb. delivered.

Sugar beet program explained — Farmers in the Southern Aroostook area will have an opportunity to learn more about the sugar beet program when they gather tonight at the Northland Hotel in Houlton for a meeting sponsored by the Maine Extension Service and Maine Sugar Beet Growers Association.

Flying club tours Loring — Thirty members of the International Flying Club of Houlton toured the installations and facilities of the 3d Missile Battalion (Nike-Hercules) 61st Artillery of Loring Air Force Base on April 3.

May Mountain hosts winter carnival — For the first time since the 1960s, May Mountain (Island Falls) hosted winter carnival activities. Focusing on developing downhill skiing enthusiasm and attracting participants from a wide geographic area, operator Butch Prescott, developed a schedule for everyone.
Dressage show — Daniel and Susan Pierce, Dansu Farm, New Limerick, announce they will be sponsoring a spring dressage schooling show to benefit the Meduxnekeag Pony Club.
