J.McLaughlin expansion benefits community

J. McLaughlin Construction has grown over the last three years. In the spring of 2015, Josh McLaughlin acquired equipment and building assets of Dickison and London, while welcoming Gerald Dickison and Jason Knapp to the team, carrying on a 44-year legacy.

In May 2012, McLaughlin purchased R.G. Dow Construction from Raymond Dow and his son, Greg. He opened his own business, J. McLaughlin Construction, LLC. McLaughlin’s office is located at 174 Bangor Street, Houlton. Raymond and Greg Dow are continuing to work with him and Brent Dickison joined the team three years ago and brings plenty of earthwork experience with him, as well.

“Opening the business has been a great move,” said McLaughlin. McLaughlin said he felt that there was great opportunity in the southern Aroostook region for an experienced earthwork contractor. “Over the last four years, I’ve had lots of work, both commercial and residential,” he added.

McLaughlin brings experience learned while working with two of the best firms in the state, Dickison and London and Sargent Corporation. He worked with Dickison and London during high school, learning the excavation trade. He went to college and worked his summers as an intern with Sargent Corporation in Stillwater, furthering his knowledge. In 2005, McLaughlin graduated from the University of Maine Orono with a degree in construction management.

His first job out of college was with Buildings Etc. in Houlton. While he was back in Houlton working where he wanted to be, within the year he was restless of working in building construction and yearned to go back into earthwork. He contacted Herb Sargent at Sargent Corporation who hired him on the spot.

Shortly after he started working for Sargent, he was instrumental in laying out and overseeing environmental permitting procedures on the first commercial-size windmill farm in Mars Hill. McLaughlin went on to become an expert in environmental work, layout and field supervision on many additional windmill projects and commercial heavy civil projects throughout the state.

During this time, he married the former Sarah King and they have three children; Dawson, Sidda and Saylor.

J. McLaughlin Construction specializes in all earthwork projects from driveway repairs and installation to large commercial projects. McLaughlin has the ability to lay out an entire site and set up grade lines, as well as handle all environmental concerns which can arise on a site, especially on lakefront properties. In addition, he has developed many contacts within the excavation business, which he can call upon as needed.

J. McLaughlin Construction has been working on projects throughout the state. For more information, call (207) 532-6335 or cell at (207) 694-2546.
