This year’s Kicking Bear will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at Smoldering Lake Outfitters on the Snow Road in Bridgewater.

This annual event for kids from ages 5-15 is a full day of activities, including shooting a bow and arrow at various targets and lots of games.

Birthday calendars

The Mars Hill Rotary Club is working on the information for the 2016 birthday calendars.  If you have any changes or additions wanted for next year, please contact any Rotarian or send the information to Tomi Henderson at or by calling 551-6791.

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Sept. 8 at the Aroostook Health Center and the speakers were Rotarian Bill Getman and Ryan Guerrette, who informed members about the activities at Bigrock.
The recent Mountain Challenge was held for the second year and saw more competitors than last year. This 5K course goes up and down the mountain several times, working the runners over 20 different obstacles. The snow guns are used as giant water guns and the hot and sweaty runners welcoming the cold shower. They will be working on some new, and more diabolical, obstacles for next year.
They will also be hosting the Aroostook County Brew Fest on Saturday, Oct. 17 beginning at noon. There will be plenty of music to enjoy throughout the day as well as a steak or chicken dinner at 5 p.m. This year will see a Keg Toss contest at 4 p.m., a silent auction and costume contest. Aroostook County’s Toughest Mile will also be run at 11 a.m., with runners heading up the ski slope to the top of the mountain.
