CONNOR TWP — Anita Soucy, 84, passed away January 23 at her home. She was born October 21, 1932 in St. André, New Brunswick, the daughter of the late Jim and Ida (Martin) Mazerolle. She married Maurice Soucy October 22, 1956 in St. Anne-de-Madawaska and moved to Connor to start a family. She was a devoted wife, mother and sister, and was always taking care of others. She had a huge garden and enjoyed sharing the bounty with her neighbors. She was well known as the neighborhood baker and many kids hung out at the house looking for cookies.

When she wasn’t taking care of others or baking, she could be found praying her rosary, leaving her in high spirits and smiling. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne. Surviving are her children, Josée’ Strachan and her husband, Robb of Calgary, Alberta, Bobby Soucy of Connor, Yvan Soucy and his significant other, Doreen of Colchester, CT, Norman Soucy of Woodland, Nelson Soucy of Connor, Gerald Soucy of Connor, Jim Soucy and his wife, Tammy of Connor; her siblings, Gemma Therrien, Therese Lapointe, Sister Ghislaine Mazerolle, Roger Mazerolle, Mathieu Mazerolle, Jean-Paul Mazerolle, Anne-Marie Vigliotti, Fernande Cote, Lucien Mazerolle, Huguette Rheaume, and Denyse Mazerolle; her grandchildrenwhom she adored and enjoyed spoiling, Jessica and Fauve Strachan, Allison, Josh and Anita Soucy, Chaster Johnson, and Jessica, Rachel and Danielle Soucy and her fiancé, Nathanael Porter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Ida; her husband, Maurice; and siblings Yvon, Rudy, Claudette, Sister Gaetane, and René Mazerolle. Friends called Thursday, January 26 from 6-8 p.m., and Friday January 27th from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, January 27, at the Parish of the Precious Blood, Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Very Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie officiating.
