Eagles top previously-undefeated Hawks in softball

More rain on Monday led to a limited schedule for varsity baseball and softball teams in the region.

Ashland’s games against Fort Kent were postponed and now will be part of a doubleheader in Fort Kent May 27 beginning at 10 a.m. Washburn’s home baseball game against Wisdom was also scratched and a makeup date has yet to be announced.

Presque Isle’s scheduled home tennis match against Houlton was postponed until 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 22.

The slate of baseball and softball games on tap Tuesday, May 16, include John Bapst hosting Presque Isle softball and baseball doubleheaders beginning at 2 p.m.; Caribou at Fort Kent at 2:30 p.m.; LCS/MSSM at Fort Fairfield at 4 p.m.; and East Grand at Southern Aroostook, 4 p.m.

The Presque Isle tennis team makes the trip to Hancock County for a match against Mount Desert Island beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Summaries of games played Monday, May 15, are as follows:

Softball

LCS/MSSM 3, Hodgdon 2 — The Eagles won their fourth straight game and in the process knocked Hodgdon from the ranks of the undefeated Monday in Limestone. Delaney Rossignol struck out eight batters and led the LCS/MSSM offense with a pair of hits. Victoria Eichorn had an RBI for the 4-2 Eagles. Megan Russell doubled for Hodgdon, which fell to 9-1.

Madawaska 17, Central Aroostook 0 — The Owls are a perfect 4-0 after tallying 10 first-inning runs in a blowout victory over the Panthers Monday in Madawaska. Hannah Nadeau hit a three-run homer and added an RBI single, while Jenna Dugal smacked three singles and drove in three runs for the Owls. Dugal dominated on the mound by tossing a two-hitter. Caitlyn Harris doubled for 3-5 CA.

Baseball

Central Aroostook 15, Madawaska 0 — The Panthers reached the .500 mark with the shutout victory on the road Monday. The Owls remain winless at 0-5. Individual results were not reported.

Hodgdon 16, LCS/MSSM 5 — The Hawks won for the sixth time this season against four losses on a cold afternoon in Limestone Monday. The Eagles fell to 3-5. Individual results were not reported.
