MAPLETON, Maine — Authorities believe that alcohol contributed to a Washburn man losing control of his vehicle and crashing it into a tree in Mapleton Friday night.

Willard Easler, 46, of Washburn was northbound on the Griffin Ridge Road in Mapleton around 9:30 p.m. when he lost control of his 1994 Chevrolet Blazer, left the road and struck a tree, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Members of the Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman fire departments had to extricate Easler, who was trapped in the vehicle, before he could be transported by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center. A release from the sheriff’s office indicated that his injuries were not life threatening.

Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, which is still under investigation, according to police.

Easler was alone in the vehicle and was not wearing his seatbelt.
