Wildcat spring athletes honored at awards ceremony

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle High School spring athletic awards night was held June 5, with members of the junior varsity and varsity softball and baseball teams, varsity tennis teams and varsity track and field teams recognized for their participation during the recently-completed sports season. 

The outstanding senior athlete awards were presented at the class day on June 8. Members of the senior class, as well as coaches and administrators, collaborate to select the award winners. This year’s recipients are Tori Koch and Nick Bartlett. Koch competed in soccer, Nordic skiing, basketball and track and field during her three-year Wildcat career, while Bartlett played four years of soccer and did alpine skiing for four years, while also playing baseball for three years.

At the awards night, JV softball coach Mike Patenaude and assistant coach Katie Patenaude presented certificates to freshmen Keegan French, Alanna Legassie, Alexis Michaud and Elizabeth Nadeau; sophomores Gabby Beaulieu, Kiarra Lahey, Grace Leavitt, Abby Quirino, Jessica Shaw and manager Meghan Dubie; and juniors Hailey St. Thomas and Aza Villatora.

JV baseball coach Ben Buckley presented certificates to freshmen Sam Beaulieu, Colby Buckley, Mitchell Dumais, Zack Fletcher, Ricky Goupille, Gabe Herweh, Blake Inman, Riley Roderick and Nathan Willett, and sophomores William Bridges, Mark Graves, Andrew Hewitt and Ian Michaud.

Girls varsity tennis coach Monica Bearden handed out a first-year letters to freshmen Hana Boucher and Gabrielle Haley, second-year letters to sophomore Anna Robinson and junior Ellie Goheen, a third-year letter to junior Miranda Bragan and a fourth-year letter to senior Sarah Morneault.

Boys varsity tennis coach Brian Massey gave first-year letters to sophomores Brandon McKnight and juniors Austin Moreau and Gage Young, and second-year letters to sophomores Andre Daigle and Mason Young and juniors Jordan Bonville and Isaac Madore.

Varsity softball coach Terry Cummings and his assistant, Peter Coffin, presented certificates to freshman Alanna Legassie; sophomores Jessica Shaw and Sierra Blade (manager) and junior Hailey St. Thomas; first-year letters to freshmen Rebecca Rider and Anna Trombley and junior manager Megan Butler; second-year letters to sophomores Allison Madore, Lydia Miller, Savannah Rodriguez and Sydney Thompson, juniors Kayla Saucier and Kiara Lyford (manager) and seniors Faith Leavitt and Amy Seeley.

Girls varsity track and field coach Mike Waugh and his assistants, Joe Greaves and Carson Dobrin, presented certificates to freshmen Stephanie Donovan, Allison Himes, Abigail Michaud, Alexis Moro, Elise Nelson and Caroline Von Semkov, sophomore Grace Bemis and junior Elizabeth Deschenes; first-year letters to freshmen Clara Kohlbacher and Libby Moreau and sophomores Alexandra Walsh and Marina Aubin (manager); second-year letters to sophomores Kamryn Gilmour, Madison Jandreau and Eleanor St. Peter; third-year letters to juniors Isabelle Jackson and Madelyn Wing and senior Tori Koch; and a fourth-year letter to senior Skylar Vogel.

Waugh, Greaves and Dobrin also presented boys varsity track and field awards. Certificate recipients were freshmen Gavin Akeley, Connor Albertson, Tyus Ambrose, Carter Jackson, Connor Junkins, Jaden MacDonald, Michael Perkins, Brad Tilley and Damon Underwood; sophomores Bryan Patterson, Seth Roy and Iffy Sargent; and juniors Jonah Clark, Jesse Hatcher, Ian Hoyt-Franz and Cameron Lahey; first-year letters to sophomore Jason Dumais and junior Alec Smith; second-year letters to sophomores Drew Cameron, Kyler Caron, Trace Cyr and Owen McQuarrie and junior Max Bartley; and a third-year letter to senior Chan Villatora.

Varsity baseball coach Derrick Kinney and assistant coach Curt Paterson gave out first-year letters to freshmen Connor DeMerchant, sophomores Torey Levesque, Dakota Morrow, Cole Paterson and Elizabeth Collins (manager), junior Chandler Paradis and seniors Grant Bridges, Bradley McMann and Jillian Jandreau (manager); second-year letters to sophomore Jonah Hudson, juniors R.J. Gross and Adam Paterson and seniors Bradley Kinney and Jacob Kinney; and a third-year letter to senior Nick Bartlett.

Sweatshirt recipients, who accumulated six varsity letters in any combination of sports, were St. Peter (soccer, skiing and track and field), Vogel (basketball and track and field), Caron (soccer, skiing and track and field) and Hudson (soccer, basketball and baseball).

Earning a jacket for lettering in one sport for four years were Morneault (tennis) and Vogel (track and field).
