Limestone welcomes redemption center

LIMESTONE, Maine — The Limestone Chamber of Commerce and the Limestone Development Foundation and the entire Town of Limestone welcome back Marilyne Ireland, the new proprietor of what is now Friendly Redemption Center.

Ireland operated the 4 Daughters Redemption business with her husband, Jim, for many years in Fort Fairfield.  She is a native of Eagle Lake and has resided in Limestone since 2002.

Friendly Redemption is located at the Hometown Fuel building on the Access Highway, just off Main Street. Ireland has set up the center to receive the goods and then sort them into the correct bins for shipment back to the bottling companies.

According to Limestone development officials, the whole redemption system of collecting bottles and cans helps keep the highways clean and helps the environment at the same time.

There’s a bit more to the redemption business than one might imagine. To do it right the Irelands have to sort out the containers and make certain each is redeemable in Maine. The containers are sorted into specific bins, designated for individual bottling companies who make pickups at the center on a regular basis.
