PFC Earl James Sowers

CARIBOU, Maine – PFC Earl James Sowers went to see the Lord after a brief illness surrounded by family on September 4, 2017. He was born on January 21, 1925 in Houlton to Ora and Ella (Knapp) Sowers.

He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Sowers Piccolella and her children; Paula Belanger (granddaughter and caregiver to Earl), James R. Boucher and his daughter Ally Rose and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earl served in the US Army during WWII and also in the Air Force air squadron, WWII Asia Pacific and was awarded the following medals; Army/Air Force honorable discharge, good conduct, occupation/guard, WWII victory service medal, wounded duck lapel, Philippines independence ribbon, and was rank of PFC. After WWII, he worked for the State Highway Department for over 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and one sister and his wife of 62 years, Dorothea E. Sowers, two sons, Rodney James Sowers, killed in Vietnam 1969 and David Earl Sowers, one daughter, Lucille E. Sowers, a daughter in law Debi Sowers and a grandson David E. Sowers, Jr.
He will be dearly missed by all who had the honor to know him. He loved his family and animals.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held 1 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. Online condolences may be expressed at
