Special town meeting to decide marijuana fate

HODGDON, Maine — Residents will be asked to gather for a second time to decide the fate of a recreational marijuana ordinance.

A special town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Mill Pond Elementary School for Hodgdon residents to vote on the proposed ordinance. More than 200 townsfolk gathered Sept. 28 to vote on the matter, but that meeting had to be postponed after a technicality was discovered.

At the Oct. 12 meeting, residents will be asked if they wish to approve a new town ordinance to prohibit retail marijuana businesses in the town.

Hodgdon’s proposed ordinance states: “Retail marijuana establishments, including retail marijuana stores, retail marijuana cultivation facilities, retail marijuana products manufacturing facilities, and retail marijuana testing facilities, and retail marijuana social clubs are expressly prohibited in this municipality.”
