High school golf season ends at state tourney

VASSALBORO, Maine — Four Aroostook County golfers competed at the state individual golf championships Saturday at Natanis Golf Club.

Wyatt Harvey of Houlton had the best showing, shooting an 86. That was good for a tie for eighth place out of 17 competitors in Class C. Shane Stackpole of Central Aroostook carded an 89, placing him in a tie for 12th.

Logan Thompson of Mattanawcook, who won his fourth consecutive Class C title, had a 66.

For girls, Libby Boone of Carlisle shot a 103 for 18th place. Central Aroostook’s Isabelle Wright had a 122, placing her last in the 22-golfer field.

Elizabeth Lacognata of Scarborough had a 70 to win the girls’ tourney.

Harvey and Boone both qualified for the state tourney at the Penobscot Valley Conference championships at JaTo Highlands in Lincoln held Sept. 28, while Stackpole and Wright did so at the Aroostook League championships at Mars Hill Country Club Sept. 18.
