ASHLAND, Maine — Are you currently out of work? Could your work skills use some updating? Would you like to improve your computer/technology skills? If so, the Ashland Area Economic Development Committee and Ashland Adult Education Program can help.

The two organizations will unite to offer a WorkReady credential program regional training series in November, and will hold an informational meeting on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ashland District School Auditorium.

WorkReady is a 60-hour, employer-endorsed credential program, supported by a variety of regional businesses and offered at no cost to eligible participants. Graduates of WorkReady become networked with over 12 local businesses that endorse the program. Anyone interested in learning more about the program is welcome to attend the Oct. 26 meeting, where interested candidates will be able to fill out an application, as well as sign up for the CASAS assessment, both of which are required to enter the program.

The upcoming WorkReady program will begin on Monday, Nov. 6, with classes being held at the Ashland District School.

According to Kevin Bushey of the Ashland Economic Development Committee, the WorkReady curriculum is designed to help job seekers upgrade their work skills for the 21st century. Ideal candidates are people who have been out of work for some time, or others looking to improve their interviewing techniques, as well as develop a stronger resume and work portfolio. Graduates of WorkReady greatly enhance their chances of success with local employers.

“With more and more businesses looking for candidates who have completed a work- readiness program, like WorkReady, this is a great opportunity for residents to jump start their job search and take positive steps towards a better job today,” Bushey said. “Come on out and learn more about a great employment training opportunity that might be just right for you.”

Classes will be held generally on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning Nov. 6. Saturday sessions are planned Nov. 11 and 18 and Dec. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The series will conclude Tuesday, Dec. 11, with graduation at 6:30 p.m.
