MARY FLORETTA (KORNICK) GRIM, LITTLETON and WINTHROP – It is with great sadness to announce the end of the great life of Mary Floretta (Kornick) Grim, age 93, who passed away Nov. 6, 2017. She was born Jan. 6th, 1924, the daughter of Herman and May (Beckman) Kornick.
She was the beloved wife of Francis B. Grim from 1947 until his death in 2007. Both originally from Baltimore, and graduates of the Baltimore Business College, they later moved to Littleton, ME in 1978, and to Winthrop, ME in 2001.
Mary was predeceased by her brother, Herman; her sister, Dorothy (King); and 2 daughters, Anne (Noonan) and Theresa (Pickel).
She is survived by her 7 children, Cecelia (Adams) of Marysville, OH; David of Hedgesville, WV; Robert of New Freedom, PA; Mary (Brown) of New Limerick, ME; Michael of Topsham, ME; Charles of Ludlow, ME; and Mary Lou of Rumford, ME. She could also boast of 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was once a social worker for the City of Baltimore, later becoming the brains of the Payroll side of Grim’s Bookkeeping and Payroll Service in business for over 50 years.
Mary was an avid reader, a lover of nature, and a curious adventurer. She had great admiration for Assateague National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia, as well as a love for the beauty of Maine. While living in Maryland she took the family on day trips to Gettysburg, Washington, D.C, and Thurmont, Md. In Maine it would be Baxter State Park, New Brunswick, or the coast. There were hundreds of camping trips to Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maine, Ontario and Quebec, she kept a detailed journal of each adventure.
As per her wishes, there will not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please make a monetary donation in her honor to the National Arbor Day Foundation at 211 N 12th St. Lincoln, NE 68508 or at www.arborday.org, or to the Maine Public Broadcasting Network, Lewiston, ME.
What an amazing woman, and a great life.
She literally died laughing!
