GILBERT CHAISSON, HOULTON – Gilbert Chaisson, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Houlton Regional Hospital. He was born on March 24, 1924, in Woodville, ME, the son of John Chaisson and Marion (Libby) Chaisson French.
Gil graduated from Schenck High School in 1942 and then from Higgins Classical Institute in 1943. Gil served in the U.S. Army during WWII. When he and the battalion he was serving in were captured by German soldiers in Normandy, France, he became a prisoner of war. He was liberated by a tank unit with the Soviet Red Army. Upon his return to the States, he enrolled at Husson University and completed his Bachelor’s in Accounting.
Gil eventually went to work for the U.S. Customs serving in many ports. He retired as Area Port Director of Houlton in 1981. Gil enjoyed New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed traveling and together with his wife, Anne, went on many cruises to the Caribbean, and trips to Alaska.
He is survived by his wife, Anne (Albert) Chaisson of Houlton; two cousins, Mary Jane Gurney of Sanford, and Elizabeth Crosby of East Millinocket. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Edward Chaisson.
Friends called at 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at St. Mary Of The Visitation, where a Mass Of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. with Father Kent Ouellette, celebrant. The family invited relatives and friends to a time of refreshment at the Parish Center immediately following the service.
