PEGGY SUE SMITH, MONTICELLO – Peggy Sue Smith, 59, grew her wings on Saturday, January 20, 2018, while at home surrounded by her family. Peggy was born on May 26, 1958, in Bangor, Maine.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Dennis Smith; two precious sons and their families, Jessie Smith and his wife, Rebecca, and their children, Carter, Cameron, and Charlotte “Charlie”, and Johnboy Mayhew his son, Coty Mayhew; and her great-grandson, Colton Mayhew; and a brother, Frank “Skip” Mayhew and his wife, Vicki. She also will be missed by Dennis’s family, her father-in-law, Ervin Smith, Dennis’s siblings and their spouses, Faye and her husband, Gil, Cathy and her husband, David, Melony, Jane and her husband, Wayne, Deb and her husband, Larry, Tim and his wife, Marcia, Kent, Kelly, Tammy and husband, Brian, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Barbara Smith, her brother-in-law, Garth Wotton, her sister-in-law, Janet Hilenski, and her husband, Paul.
Peggy’s life revolved around Dennis, Jessie, Rebecca, Johnboy, and her grandbabies. She was known for her fabulous cooking, hot wings and homemade bread were among her specialties. Jessie even bought her a sign “Mom’s 24 Hour Kitchen.” Johnboy always said he gained five pounds a day when he was with his Mom. She loved cooking for a crowd and having people around.
In Peggy’s words: “Dennis was the love of my life, my world, my everything. I am so grateful for the life we shared and the family we created. Also for taking such good care of me when I needed you the most. Through all of my illnesses your love is what pulled me through.
“Jessie and Johnboy – I’m going to miss you both more than you know. I want more than anything to always be here to take care of you but God has another plan.
“To my grandbabies – You are my world, heart, and soul. Mimi loves you and always will. Even if you can’t see me I will always be watching over you. Remember I want you all to be good and kind people. If you’re missing me, look up in the sky and know that I am watching over you.”
