Winterfest 2018

Plans are currently being made for Winterfest 2018.  This year’s events will take place on Thursday, March 8, through Saturday, March 10.  Some events this year will include a MZ Winterfest Snowbunny Pageant, Rotary Supper, Match Your Mate, silent auction, music, breakfast, basketball, cribbage, Bingo, fireworks and more.

Organizers are challenging all our former MZ winners to get ready to strut your stuff again this year.  There is no age or gender limit – so sign up to make this a fun and entertaining event.

Rotary raffle

The Mars Hill Rotary Club is holding their annual raffle, with proceeds to go toward scholarships and the Capital Campaign at The Aroostook Medical Center for purchasing new beds for the Aroostook Health Center.

Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased from any Rotarian or from Kathy at the superintendent’s office at Central Aroostook High School.

There are currently over 30 items on the ticket, so there are over 30 chances to win.Among the items are 2 chances for 100 gallons of fuel oil and many gift certificates for oil changes, restaurants, car washes and more.  The winners will be drawn at halftime of a home basketball game in December.

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday morning, Jan. 16, at the Aroostook Health Center at 6:30 a.m.

Rotarian Steve Cheney spoke about some of his adventures.  He was able to help with this year’s wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery this past December.  While helping pass out wreaths was a tremendous experience, finding the parking lot entailed going around and around a few times.  Once parked, he ended up walking for “miles – uphill both ways” to get to the cemetery.

He also spoke about visiting the Basketball Hall of Fame a number of years ago and being the one million and first visitor — just missing out on four tickets to the Final Four.  He also wanted folks to know it was a good thing that his wife went back to the car to check that all four door were locked — allowing the elderly couple to get to the Hall of Fame just ahead of them.
