Caribou boys place first at Nordic middle school county meet

ASHLAND, Maine — The Caribou Nordic ski team placed first at Monday’s Aroostook League championship meet.

The Vikings dominated the classic-style meet with five skiers finishing in the top 10, led by Elliot Sleeper with a time of 10 minutes and 44.3 seconds on the three-kilometer course. He was second overall to Katahdin’s Lucas Streinz, who posted a time of 9:25.

Also in the top 10 for Caribou were Ari Plante (fifth), Reid Margeson (eighth), Nicholas Margeson (ninth) and Aiden Wilcox (10th).

Ulli Margeson of Woodland was third. Ashland’s top boy was Clark Condon, who was sixth overall. Cooper Boinske (29th) was the top skier for Presque Isle. Fort Kent and Madawaska also competed. Forty six boys participated.

Valley Rivers Middle School of Fort Kent was the girls’ team champion. Kayley Bell of Caribou was the top individual in 13:17.2. Woodland’s Saffayia Durepo came in third in 13:17.9. Lacey Jandreau of Ashland came in fourth and Maddie Jackson, representing Presque Isle, placed 16th out of 50 racers.
