BRIDGEWATER, Maine – Paul H. Young, 96, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born on March 21, 1921, in Boston, MA, the son of Harold and Helen (Hamilton) Young. Paul grew up in Brighton, MA, and graduated from Brighton High School.

He enlisted in the United States Navy from 1941-1947 and became a barber while serving on the USS Mississippi. He married Greta DeLong on August 18, 1948, and together they would raise three children. Paul and Greta moved to Bridgewater in 1950 where they started Young’s Barbershop and Young’s Beauty Shop, where they worked together for fifty years. He enjoyed fishing and golfing with family and friends, as well gardening and traveling in the retirement years. Paul was a past member of the William Cousins American Legion Post #118, Bridgewater Jaycees, Odd Fellows Lodge, MHCC Mens Senior League, and a longtime attendee of the Free Baptist Church of Bridgewater.
Paul is survived by three children, Joan Kingsbury and her husband, R.C. “Ray,” of Newburyport, MA, Brian Young and his wife, Devi, of Presque Isle, Paula Flewelling and her husband, Ronnie, of Monticello; five grandchildren, Dale and his wife, Carrie, Shelly and her husband, Joe, Justin and his wife, Melissa, Matthew, and Michael; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Paul, Grace, Brad, Allee, Aiden, and Emma; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Greta, on Valentine’s Day; a grandson, Brad Flewelling, a sister, Peggy MacLeod, and a nephew, Gary MacLeod.
Paul’s family would also like to express a special thank you to the nurses and staff at the Aroostook Health Center for all of the wonderful care given to him.
Friends may call at 12 noon on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Free Baptist Church in Bridgewater, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Peters officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church fellowship hall. A service of committal will take place for Paul and Greta at a later date at Smith Cemetery, Bridgewater.
