Home Builders student earns Job Corps award

LIMESTONE, Maine — Loring Job Corps Center officials recently announced Bruce Haight as the star student of the quarter.

Haight, who hails from New Hampshire, joined the Loring team in July 2017. Since his arrival at the Loring Center Bruce has excelled in the Home Builders Painting Program and in student leadership programs on campus.

Roger Felix, business and community liaison at the center, said Haight has been instrumental in the ongoing development of the new members on center and serves as a positive role model for all.

“Bruce has been recognized on several occasions for his leadership in his trade and his ability to also lead in a residential setting,” said Felix.

During the recent awards ceremony, Haight addressed the entire student body and challenged them to remain focused on their goals while also striving to push themselves to achieve what others told them was not possible.

“The naysayers who tell you to not try because it’s too hard,” he said, “are usually the ones who are afraid to even make an attempt.”

Haight attributed his success to hard work, dedication, a positive attitude and the willingness to learn from past mistakes.

He plans to complete Job Corps this summer and then obtain his college education, with the long-range plan of eventually joining the Home Builders Institute and Job Corps training teams throughout the country to teach the next generation of youth how to gain the skills necessary to obtain and maintain full-time employment.
