VAN BUREN, Maine — Local musician and songwriter Travis Cyr held a benefit concert and silent auction March 31, which raised nearly $3,000 for the Van Buren school music program.

Cyr donated all of the evening’s proceeds, totaling $2,857, to the school to aid in instrument repairs and purchases. The event was held at the Aroostook Hospitality Inn’s upstairs ballroom and featured refreshments and a bake sale as well.

The evening began with few instrumental numbers by school music director Barb Blier and two of her students, Brentin Soucy and Skylar Paradis. Chloe Rossignol and Thomas Lajoie offered solo sets,.

“Both young musicians demonstrated accomplished guitar playing and fine singing,” said Cyr.

A crowd favorite, the Lil Ghosts (Mallory and Nathalie Beaulieu and Quinn, Joshua and Geraghty Smith), sang an acapella version of a Ghost of Paul Revere song that Cyr called “truly inspiring.”

Cyr closed out the evening with an hour long set focusing mostly on some of his newest songs and and a few “oldies.” Luke Rossignol accompanied him on guitar for the last four songs of the set.

“I wish to thank all of the generous folks who donated items to the auction and bake sale, to Steve Dobson and the Aroostook Hospitality Inn and all who came out for the evening,” Cyr said.
