Shire tennis squads split matches with Van Buren

It was a relatively quiet week for the Houlton boys and girls tennis teams with just one match on the schedule. The Shire girls picked up the 4-1 win over the Crusaders, but the Houlton boys fell 3-2. 

The Shires will have a busy week coming up as Houlton travels to Presque Isle Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. match and then hosts the Wildcats on Thursday at 4 p.m. Houlton then travels to Madawaska for a doubleheader with the Owls on Friday and hosts Schenck/Stearns on Monday.

Van Buren boys 3, Houlton 2  — At Van Buren Friday, the individual results, with Houlton players listed first were: in singles, Nolan Porter lost to Brandon Sytulek, 2-8; Tim Youngfellow was beaten by Brenton Soucy, 6-8; and Devin Ivey lost to Luc Perreault 2-8.

In doubles, Isaac Vega and Jaron Gentle beat Skylar Paradis and Colby Lapointe 8-2; and Nolan Jacobs and Nate Deluca bested Deacon Thivierge and Eddie Saucier, 8-2.

Houlton girls 4, Van Buren 1 — At Van Buren Friday, the individual results, with Shires listed first, were: in singles, Becca Mooers beat Tiffany Morrow, 8-4; Sydney Lorom bested Erica Ouellette, 8-2; and Maddie Grant defeated Emma LaJoie, 8-0.

In doubles, Grace Johnson and Emily Miller lost to Sierra Soucy-Emilia Nicknair, 3-8; and Reagan Perfitt and Morgan Graham won by forfeit.
