News from Ludlow (week of May 9, 2018)

New flags will fly this year along the Ludlow Road. The wind has had a negative effect on the original batch of American flags that have been hung seasonally. A new style was wear-tested — or, rather, “wind-tested” — last year and with generous donations the new style will replace the old mended flags.

The trick is in the fabric, which has an open weave to reduce fabric stress. The fabric is also more colorfast to resist fading.

Three new flags are featured, in memory of Jimmy McCordic, Marie Wright and Aileen Smith, donated by Michele McCordic and Sheridan Barrows.

If anyone is interested in purchasing a flag in memory of a loved one, stop by the office to place your order. A memorial plaque is on display in the office with engravings of each person honored. Local engraver Tim Rodgerson is adding new plaques to the board.

In other news, the town has added three to its rosters. Darren LaPointe became road commissioner on Feb. 14, Rick Bailey joined as the new animal control officer on March 19, and Clarissa Porter is the new code enforcement officer as of April 11.
