ORIENTÂ and CASTLE HILL, Maine – Phyllis Margaurite (Megquier) Spooner, 86, formerly of Orient and Castle Hill, Maine, left this earthy realm in the early morning hours of May 31, 2018, at Madigan Estates Nursing home in Houlton with her loving family by her side.
She was born on June 10, 1931, believed in the hereafter, and loved the Lord and her family unconditionally. She had an extreme passion for gardening, flowers, and getting the job done right, which is a legacy she has passed on to her family.
Phyllis worked for several years as a CNA in the Houlton area. Her work ethic and love of the people she cared for was known to all who were blessed to work alongside of her. Though she had little of the material things of this life, she was a true champion of those less fortunate.
Phyllis and her husband, Earl Llewelyn Spooner Sr., married while very young and shared 62 anniversaries together. They spent their lives in Orient and raised their family there. They ministered to the Church of Christ family where Earl preached for 30+ years. Mom’s love of flowers was apparent to all who knew her. She loved us, was an awesome cook, and took care of the birds and little critters in nature. She had a special soft place in her heart for the hummingbirds… small and feisty… just like her.
She leaves behind her five children, Sharon Murchison and her husband, Hazen; Gail Mailman and her husband, Thomas; Earl Spooner Jr. and his wife, Irene Alice; Carol McLaughlin and her husband, David; and Bradley Spooner and his partner, Joanne Lane; several grandchildren, Deborah Hobson Bird and her husband, Victor; Heather MacKinnon and her husband, Robert; Kimberly Murchison and her finance, Chuck Michalesko; Christopher Murchison and his wife, Christina; Joseph Mailman, Jonathan Mailman and his partner, Maria Brand; Ryan Mailman and his partner, Amy; Lacey Hodsdon and her husband, Brandon; Mandi Campbell and her husband, Aaron; Kerry Dockham; Michelle LaCombe, Melissa Spooner; Karen Toothaker and her husband, Josh; Sarah Spooner; and Pamela Blass and her husband, Jonathan; and several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Phyllis was predeceased by her father, Arthur Megquier, and her mother, Veda Dwyer Megquier; her sisters, Gertrude and Doris; her brothers, Buddy, Edward, Harold, and Stanley; a granddaughter, Kelly Elisabeth Mailman; a great-grandson, Tanner Jonathan Morse, and a grandson-in-law, SSG Kenneth Ray Hobson II.
We cannot fill the void left here on earth with her passing. Our strength comes because of the ultimate sacrifice given by our Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior and the promises made to us in John 3:16.
Rest easy in the arms of our Lord. We will look forward to the blessed day when we will be united once again.
Friends may call at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Dunn Funeral Home where a memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Envoy / Pastor Frank Nataluk officiating.
