From the Bunkers (week of June 13, 2018)

HOULTON, Maine — Good morning neighbors and friends. Another great week at the course with mild temps. But let’s face it, we need the rain. Although our greens and tees are irrigated, the fairways are not. They are really starting to get too dry. The grounds crew is doing a great job keeping our course very playable. Just a quick reminder that your memberships should be paid in full by June 15.

This Friday, we will hold our first Couples Scramble at 5 p.m. This will be a monthly event, giving you a chance to meet and play with new golfers. You do not have to be attached, just have an interest in golf. You can also stick around after and have dinner and drinks at the Lakeside Restaurant.

The Houlton High School Alumni nine-hole four person  scramble will start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 30. Call the proshop to register for these events soon. The Men’s Twilight League began last week with several upsets. I think we have a couple sneaky good teams. The Ladies Association was canceled due to weather. They will begin this week.

The Junior Golf clinic will begin Tuesday, June 26 with an informational meeting. Subsequent classes will be held on Mondays. David Grant and I will hold a four day high school age golf camp for new golfers and those wishing to hone their skills. It is open to all area schools. Call the clubhouse to sign up for these programs.

We will have a volunteer cleanup day on Saturday, June 23, starting at 8 a.m. The main goal for the day will be to clear the weeds and loose branches from our pine plantations on both sides of hole two and between the sixth and seventh holes. The course will look cleaner and make it easier to find errant shots. Bring your weed wacker and spend a couple hours with other members of your course improve our visual image. Lunch will be provided. Many hands will make short work of it.

The Lakeside Restaurant is is a great place to have a quiet scenic business luncheon. Open Wednesday thru Saturday from 10:30- 2:30 p.m. for lunch. Just a short drive from anywhere.

Temperatures will be rising this week so take advantage and come play a few rounds. We’ll see you there.
