Wintergreen to host citywide summer art

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Registration is now open for Wintergreen Art Center’s Summer Arts Program, and staff plan events not only at the center’s State Street home but at three other locations in the Star City.

Classes begin on July 9 and include Art with HeART, located at The Lighthouse, 65 Carmichael St.; photography at Wintergreen; choreographed dance at the Sargent Family Community Center; and arts and crafts at the Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center.

Classes are organized in two three-week sessions, ending on Aug. 16.

“Summer Arts Teacher Shaye McHatten is back with a summer program full of fun and creativity,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director.  “Shaye and Emma Beaulieu, our assistant teacher, are magic together. From a diverse, multi-location program for students in Kindergarten through eighth grade to an arts-and-crafts program for seniors at the nursing home, they bring love and laughter every day.”

This is Wintergreen’s second summer of teaching art classes in neighborhoods and senior care facilities in Presque Isle.

“We’re continuing to think outside the Center,” said Hutchins.  “This summer’s programming is another step towards our goal of bringing art directly to people who may not otherwise be able to get to Wintergreen.

She added, “We’re also thrilled to be a part of the vibrancy at the new Sargent Family Community Center by offering dance in the Multi-Purpose Room.  Plus Shaye is offering a special Teen Night on Thursdays at The Lighthouse. It truly is going to be a fun summer.”
