HOULTON, Maine — Our Maine summers are kicking into gear weatherwise. A little much needed rain midweek was welcomed. The crew is getting caught up on mowing and our greens are looking good. Father’s Day weekend found many fathers on the course with some of their family.

The next big event will be the four-person nine hole scramble for the Houlton High School Alumni Association. It will be held on Saturday, June 30 beginning at 9 a.m. The cost is $35 per player and will benefit the HHS Alumni Association. Call the proshop to register at 532-2662.

Junior golf clinic will begin Tuesday, June 26, with an informational meeting at the clubhouse at 8 a.m. Call the clubhouse to register your children. We will hold a four-day golf camp for high school age players in late July. New players or those wishing to improve their skills. It will be open to all interested area high school students. Please call the proshop for more info or to signup.

Don’t forget to come to the course this Saturday morning to participate in our cleanup day. We will be starting at 8 a.m. and work for a few hours. Bring your string trimmer and rake and your enthusiasm as we attack the weeds in the pine trees on a few of the holes. Lunch will be provided. Many hands will make quick work of it.

The Lakeside Restaurant continues to offer an excellent menu of fine foods. Weekends have been booked and reservations are suggested. Call Nancy at 694-9494. They are serving Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. And of course, Bill’s famous Brunch on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come enjoy the food and atmosphere.

If you are short on time, consider joining the national initiative and come out to the course and just play nine holes. It’s fun, good exercise, and a great release from the tensions of the day. We’ll see you on the course.

The Houlton Community Golf Club is located on 6 Country Club Drive. Call the clubhouse at 532-2662 for more details.
